Recent Policy Changes

Approved by the RESO Board of Directors. Effective December 2025.

Workgroups: Staff Planning

  1. The RESO CEO will appoint one chair and one or more vice-chairs to workgroups. Vice-chairs do not automatically succeed chairs.

Specifications

  1. RESO Data Dictionary and Transport Workgroups are able to approve Minor Data Dictionary versions without requiring ratification by the RESO Board of Directors.
  2. No breaking changes can be introduced in Minor versions of the Data Dictionary.
Note: Breaking changes are defined on transport.reso.org/versioning.
  3. Adding new elements to the Data Dictionary that result in duplication of existing Data Dictionary elements is a breaking change that must occur in a Major version.
  4. Certification applicants can add duplicate elements from future Major versions and pass the current version of certification testing as long as the current related duplicate items exist in the same system.
  5. Duplicates are items that have been identified and approved by the Data Dictionary Workgroup and are listed in official documentation by the Data Dictionary Workgroup.

Certification

  1. Adding new testing rules to existing data elements is a major change. New testing rules may be added for new data elements as a minor change.
  2. RESO will always certify on the latest minor version in a given major branch since new data elements added in a minor version will always be non-breaking additions to the standard.
  3. Fast Track suggestions will only be required in the next major version. Providers will receive warnings about items prior to that release.
  4. RESO will fix false negatives when found. Fixes for false positives will be brought to the Transport Workgroup for review and approval.
    1. False Negatives – provider fails when they should pass.
    2. False Positives – provider passes when they should fail.
  5. The RESO SDK version will be added to endorsements.
  6. RESO endorsements will expire after two years.
